Facebook needs to do more to prevent minors from using their site.
Most minors don't know enough regarding their safety when it comes to social networking.
HOWEVER...
I realize it isn't 100% Facebook's fault when children get sneaky and lie about their age. However, they have to protect their "asses" as well as the children that do get passed the sign up stage. Facebook must try to do more about this situation! AND Parents should be taking more control over what their children are doing on the internet, not just Facebook.
My niece who is 12 is on Facebook (as well as a few other relatives who are under the age requirements of the site). Sure, she is mature for her age and isn't easily influenced by what she sees and reads there (or anywhere for that matter) but, damn, she isn't too smart when it comes to her privacy! (Sorry my dear)
She seems to think that because her (over 100) friends on her list are "close" friends (so she says) that her cell phone number (didn't you know? every "tween" has one now) is safe when she posts it . She is also very stubborn and annoyed with me when I explain reasons why she shouldn't do so. Her "close" friends have "close" friends and those "close" friends have... you get the picture. It isn't too hard leaking someones personal information when you have an ENDLESS chain of "close" friends. All it takes is one person to disregard a person's privacy then all safety goes out the window.
Kids are too "ignorant" when it comes to others watching out for them.
Dear "ignorant" Kids,
Ever try pressing the "PrntScr" button on your keyboard? This key stores a screen captured picture of what you see on your monitor to your computer's memory, all you need to do is right click your mouse and paste it into any image editing program, then, voila - there is a picture of what was on your screen when you pressed that "PrntScr" button - Now all it takes is for someone to post that image ANYWHERE on the net... that image could have YOUR personal info on it!! There are a million ways to leak somebody's business other than "friends" just out right telling somebody. USE YOUR BRAINS!!
Here is a site full of Facebook Fail pictures:
Failbooking.com
PassiveAggressiveNotes
(Pardon the ill language-even though I know you minors use it)
I agree, the above sites are hilarious, however, it's a very serious matter when your "friends" submit your Facebook "fails" to these sites. Some of these sites DON'T remove your name or picture either!! It happens all the time so be careful what you post!!
Be Careful Who Your Online Friends Are
So just how safe are you?
